D'Antoni says considering starting Shumpert Friday in Wash but wouldn't say PG or SG.I can't tell if this should be made into a big deal or if it's really meaningless. In two games, Shumpert's already been the Knicks' best backcourt member, but at the same time he looks like a valuable member off the bench.
If Shump was going to replace Landry as the starting SG, it'd give the Knicks a solid defensive duo in their backcourt. It would also maybe make Shumpert take better shots with Amar'e and Melo also demanding the ball. Whether or not Fields would look good as the leader of the bench crew remains to be seen.
If Shump replaced Douglas as the starting PG, it probably wouldn't have as much of an impact. Douglas would become the 6th man and bring some scoring, defense, and passing off the bench. However, Douglas is more of a point guard than Shumpert, who mainly looks to score. Though Toney isn't a great playmaker, he does try and run the offense.
I suppose in the end, it's all about what group is playing the best. Starter is really only a title. I guess we'll see who's starting on Friday.
