A Very Short Update on J.R. Smith

ESPN NBA analyst Brian Windhorst tweeted the following today:
According to my Chinese friend @JordanLee2009 JR Smith's team officially missed playoffs & he can return to NBA on Feb. 15.
I don't know if that means J.R. Smith will be able to play on the 15th or if it means he can begin his search for a team on the 15th. If it means he will be eligible to play, that means we could get a decision from Smith within the next two days. If it's the latter, then it may take awhile before Smith reaches his decision.

With Jeremy Lin's emergence and this current Knicks winning streak, with Amar'e returning this week and Melo returning (hopefully) next week, my desire for Smith has diminished a little bit. Team chemistry is extremely high right now and it seems like everyone is pretty comfortable with what they're doing. Smith has been known to cause some problems off the court and in the locker room, so is it a risk to bring him onto a team that's in a groove?

Alan Hahn tweeted this morning that the Knicks are still very interested in him. Either way, I suppose we'll know what he's doing within the next 10 days or so.
